CCTV Wireless Camera Info and Reviews
A CCTV wireless camera is one of the most effective solutions to protecting your home and family or business from vandals and burglars. Wireless security cameras are now more affordable than ever, but with so many to choose from where do you start? Here are the most important things you should be looking out for…
Why Choose Wireless Over Wired Systems?
The biggest benefit of wireless CCTV systems is that the cameras can be positioned in just about any location and you can still get a great quality picture. Because there are no wires you don’t need to worry about laying cables and drilling through walls and ceilings. Not only that, installing wired cameras can often look very unsightly with cables running in all directions.
Do You Require Motion Detection?
Many of the CCTV wireless camera models come with in-built motion detection, allowing video to be stored on your recording device automatically when movement is detected. You can also be notified via email or text messaging when you are away.
How About Remote Monitoring Via The Internet?
With today’s advanced computers and the Internet, it is also possible to view your home or business cameras via the Internet or the latest smart-phones, such as the Apple iPhone. There are many models on the market that support this, from well known companies such as Panasonic, D-Link, Cisco, Linksys and TRENDnet.
For example, say you were away on vacation and you receive a text message on your iPhone to say your CCTV wireless camera had been triggered; you could simply connect to your camera via the Internet and take a look at what is going on. If you notice anything unusual you could immediately alert the authorities back home.
What Are Your Recording Requirements?
Depending on the CCTV wireless camera model chosen, you can set-up your system to stream video on a continuous basis to a digital video recorder (DVR), VCR, or simply a TV or monitor. Or you can set it to record at specific times of the day, or even by movement activation as I explained earlier.
The more advanced camera systems will always a DVR or your PC's hard disk for recording. You can buy complete systems with a DVR and cameras included.
Note: The larger the hard disks of a DVR system, the longer your recording time will be.
Concealed Cameras
You can also buy mini hidden wireless cameras, some of which are disguised as toys or everyday household items. These types of wireless are perfect for keeping an eye on babysitters, or even employees that may be suspected of theft or vandalism.
Whatever your requirement is, there is a wireless camera system to match your budget, from stand-alone cameras to 4+ camera systems complete with DVR and monitors.
I personally own 2 Linksys Wireless N Internet home monitoring cameras as it does everything I need, such as recording live video to my PC, which I can also view anywhere in the world from my laptop or iPhone. I bought my system after I was burgled, so my advice is to not wait until something happens before you install a CCTV wireless camera system.
